My Big Why
The gurus of the online world always tell you that you must have a ‘big why’ to motivate you to perform. It took me some time to realize that being as famous as Ann Sieg or as wealthy as Andrew Cass was not my ‘big why’….I work to help others fulfill their needs and dreams. I am happy with a modest living, indeed, I spend a great deal of my ‘work’ time assisting retired missionaries and others learn to blog, thereby extending the life of their ministries.
The goal of this blog is to provide information and encouragement, to share some wisdom I have gleaned from others over the years, and to provide support and tools for others who wish to work from home.
It is a journey that began for me in 2008 when I was down-sized out of my ‘dream job’ in the world of corporate real-estate. I grew up learning to be self-sufficient, to address my own needs in a pro-active way. My needs now are different, but I am still compelled to manage them proactively. Some of us have been down-sized out of the corporate world, have seen our retirements shrink with the recent economic crisis, have our children or grandchildren or parents dependent on us. Many of us have turned to self-employment to create new incomes.
My name is Rachel Williamson. I am the eldest of 13 children, yep, you heard that right 13 (eight boys and five girls)!
My parents are 80 and 84, still in great health. Mom takes care of vacation homes for folks who own second homes in the TVA Lake District in Tennessee. Pop mows lawns for ‘pocket money’ and plays tennis at least twice a week, just recently conceding that playing doubles is not ‘wimping out’!
For most of my early years, we relied on home grown produce and protein to sustain a growing family. Organic Gardening magazine was Mom’s favorite. When I went away to college, my wardrobe was almost entirely sewn by yours truly.
My husband pastors a very small church in a classic Southern small town in South Carolina. Between us we have 4 children and 9 grandchildren scattered from New York to Arizona. The eldest will get his learner’s permit to drive this summer and the youngest is 2.
I would love to hear from you….what are your needs and dreams? Is there something I can help you with? Please comment below…I will answer each of you personally.
